In general, the Subcommittee handles issues related to aviation and the U.S. space program. The Space and Aeronautics Subcommittee oversees civilian and commercial space and aeronautical R&D, including civil aviation. This includes NASA, commercial space activities within the Department of Transportation and the Department of Commerce, and the aviation R&D activities of the FAA.
